Gratitude, Discernment, and the Escalation of Power (Śvā–Dvipī–Vyāghra–Nāga–Siṃha–Śarabha Itihāsa)
तस्यर्षेरुपविष्टस्थ पादमूले महामते । मनुष्यवद्गतो भावो स्नेहबद्धों& भवद् भूशम्
tasyarṣer upaviṣṭastha-pādamūle mahāmate | manuṣyavad gato bhāvo sneha-baddho ’bhavad bhūśam ||
ビーシュマは言った。「賢き者よ、その犬が大聖仙の足もとに座していると、心に人のような情が芽生えた。愛着に固く縛られ、聖仙に深く寄り添うようになった。」
भीष्म उवाच
Even an animal can develop refined, ‘human-like’ affection through proximity to a virtuous person; the verse highlights the moral power of saintly association and the binding force of sneha (attachment).
A dog sits near a great sage’s feet and, through that closeness, becomes intensely attached to him, experiencing a disposition comparable to human affection.
