बहव: पण्डिता मूर्खा लुब्धा मायोपजीविन: । कुर्युदोषमदोषस्य बृहस्पतिमतेरपि,“विद्वानोंमें भी बहुत-से ऐसे अविवेकी, लोभी और कपटी होते हैं, जो बृहस्पतिके समान बुद्धि रखनेवाले निर्दोष व्यक्तिमें भी दोष ढूँढ निकालते हैं
bahavaḥ paṇḍitā mūrkhā lubdhā māyopajīvinaḥ | kuryur doṣam adoṣasya bṛhaspatimater api ||
ビーシュマは語った。「学者と見なされる者の中にも、実は愚かな者が多い――貪り、欺きによって生きる者たちだ。そうした者は、咎なき人にさえ咎を作り出す。たとえその人がブリハスパティに等しい知恵を備えていようとも。」
भीष्म उवाच
Reputation for learning is not the same as true wisdom: greed and deceit can corrupt judgment, leading people to invent faults even in the innocent. The verse warns against credulity toward criticism and urges discernment and ethical speech.
In Śānti Parva, Bhīṣma instructs Yudhiṣṭhira on dharma and right conduct. Here he highlights a social danger: even those called ‘learned’ may be driven by selfish motives and thus malign the faultless, underscoring the need for careful evaluation of accusations.
