Bhīma’s Rebuttal of Yudhiṣṭhira’s Renunciatory Inclination
bhaikṣyam evācariṣyāma śarīrasyāvimokṣaṇāt | na cedam dāruṇaṁ yuddham abhaviṣyan mahīkṣitām ||
Bhima contrasts a life of renunciation (sustained by alms until death) with the violent consequences of royal ambition, implying that attachment to power and possession fuels catastrophic conflict.
Bhima speaks reflectively about the causes of the great war, stating that if they had lived like mendicants, the terrible war among kings would not have arisen.
