Balarāma’s Pilgrimage Context

na devalagatis tatra tava gantuṃ tapodhana | brahmaṇaḥ sadane vipra jaigīṣavyo yad āptavān ||

Educational Q&A

The verse emphasizes spiritual eligibility: access to the highest realm (Brahmā’s abode) is not gained by wish alone but by the maturity of merit, realization, and fitness—exemplified by Jaigīṣavya’s attainment.

Vaiśampāyana explains to an ascetic brāhmaṇa that he cannot go to the realm where Jaigīṣavya has gone, identifying it specifically as Brahmā’s abode and implying a distinction in spiritual rank or qualification.
