śūrāṇām araryavṛttānāṁ saṅgrāmeṣv anivartinām | dhīmatāṁ satyasaṁdhānāṁ sarveṣāṁ kratuyājinām ||
サンジャヤは言った。「彼らは高貴な行いの勇士であり、戦場にあって決して退かぬ者たち――賢明にして真実と誓約の言葉に堅く、皆ことごとく聖なる祭祀を執り行う者であった。」
संजय उवाच
The verse praises an ideal of dharmic warriorhood: courage without retreat, wisdom, fidelity to truth and vows, and reverence for sacred duty—suggesting that martial prowess is ethically framed by character and commitment.
Sañjaya is characterizing a group of combatants in the Shalya Parva, emphasizing their valor and moral qualities—unflinching in battle, truthful, and ritually observant—setting the tone for the ensuing martial events.
