तथा त्वमपि सर्वासां सरितां वै पतिर्भव । 'जैसे देवराज इन्द्र सदा भयसे हमलोगोंकी रक्षा करते हैं, उसी प्रकार आप भी समस्त सरिताओंके अधिपति हो जाइये (और हमारी रक्षा कीजिये)
tathā tvam api sarvāsāṃ saritāṃ vai patir bhava |
「天帝インドラが常に恐れから我らを守るように、あなたもまた、すべての河川の正しき主となり——我らを護ってください。」
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Legitimate authority is framed as protective responsibility: one who becomes 'lord' (pati) should remove fear and safeguard dependents, modeled on Indra’s role as a protector.
The speaker conveys a request/blessing that the addressed being should assume sovereignty over the rivers, explicitly linking that sovereignty to the duty of protection, as Indra protects from fear.
