Indra–Namuci Expiation
तत्राप्यधिकसंतापो विश्वामित्रो महामुनि: । दृष्टवा तेजो वसिष्ठस्थ चिन्तामभिजगाम ह,उनमें भी महामुनि विश्वामित्रको ही अधिक संताप होता था, वे वसिष्ठका तेज देखकर चिन्तामग्न हो गये थे
tatrāpy adhika-santāpo viśvāmitro mahāmuniḥ | dṛṣṭvā tejo vasiṣṭha-sthaṃ cintām abhijagāma ha ||
ヴァイシャンパーヤナは言った。「その二人のうち、より鋭い苦悩に灼かれたのは大聖ヴィシュヴァーミトラであった。ヴァシシュタに宿る霊光テージャスを見て、彼は深い思索へと沈んだ。」
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights how encountering another’s spiritual excellence can provoke intense inner turmoil; ethically, it points toward transforming envy and rivalry into self-examination and disciplined striving rather than outward hostility.
Vaiśampāyana narrates that Viśvāmitra, more distressed than others, sees the extraordinary radiance present in Vasiṣṭha and becomes absorbed in anxious contemplation, indicating a turning point toward deeper resolve and inner conflict.
