ते तु तद्बलमासाद्य बभज्जुः सर्वतोदिशम् । तच्छुत्वा दिद्वुतं सैन्यं विश्वामित्रस्तु गाधिज:
te tu tadbalam āsādya babhajjuḥ sarvato diśam | tac chrutvā didrutaṃ sainyaṃ viśvāmitras tu gādhijaḥ ||
しかし彼らはその勢力に突き当たるや、四方八方からこれを打ち砕き、散り散りにした。軍勢がにわかに潰走し、混乱に陥ったと聞くと、ガーディの子ヴィシュヴァーミトラは（それに応じて動いた）。この段は、戦場で共同の規律が崩れれば、力はたちまち敗走へと転ずること、そして危機における統率と沈着の道義的重みを示している。
