Sarasvatī Tīrtha Itinerary — Balarāma’s Pilgrimage
सोमस्याभिषवं कृत्वा चकार विपुलं ध्वनिम् । तत्पश्चात् उन महातपस्वी त्रितने उस फैली हुई लतामें सोमकी भावना करके मन-ही- मन ऋग्ू
somasya abhiṣavaṃ kṛtvā cakāra vipulaṃ dhvanim | tatpaścāt sa mahātapāsvī tṛṇe latāyāṃ ca somabhāvanāṃ kṛtvā manasā ṛg-yajuḥ-sāmnām anusmaraṇaṃ cakāra | nareśvara! tataḥ śarkarā-vālukā-kaṇeṣu śilā-musalayor bhāvanāṃ kṛtvā tatra piṣṭvā latāto somarasaṃ niṣpīḍya niravahat | paścāj jale ghṛtasaṅkalpaṃ kṛtvā devatānāṃ bhāgān niyatya somarasaṃ saṃskṛtya tasya āhutīr juhvānaḥ gambhīrayā vedamantradhvanyā nādam akarot ||
ヴァイシャンパーヤナは言った。「ソーマの搾りを行うと、彼は大いなる響きを起こした。ついで大苦行者トリタは、草と広く這う蔓のうちにソーマを心に観じ、リグ・ヤジュル・サーマの三ヴェーダの讃歌を内に念じた。王よ、さらに彼は小石や砂粒を臼と杵に見立て、その上で蔓をすり潰し、圧してソーマの汁を引き出した。次に、聖なるサンカルパ(誓願)によって水をギーと定め、神々に帰すべき分を配当し、ソーマを調えて火に供え、ヴェーダの真言の深い響きを轟かせた。」
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse emphasizes that ritual dharma depends not only on external resources but on disciplined intention (saṅkalpa), correct mantra-remembrance, and ascetic purity; through inner resolve, the sacrificer maintains cosmic order by giving the gods their due.
A great ascetic performs a Soma rite: he envisions Soma in grass and creeper, recalls Ṛg-Yajus-Sāman, symbolically treats sand and pebbles as grinding tools to extract Soma-juice, assigns the gods’ portions, and offers oblations while chanting Vedic mantras with a deep resonant sound.
