Educational Q&A

The verse frames political restoration as grounded in righteous leadership (Dharmarāja) supported by capable protectors: reliance on a powerful ally enables the re-establishment of lawful sovereignty, while war brings sweeping, irreversible consequences for many peoples.

Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that Yudhiṣṭhira has regained royal prosperity by taking refuge in Bhīma’s strength; he emphasizes that Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s sons and many allied kings and regional forces (Kaliṅga, Magadha, easterners, Gandhāra, Kurus, etc.) have been slain in the battle.
