The verse highlights the moral and psychological aftermath of adharma-driven conflict: when a ruler’s choices culminate in catastrophic loss, the mind turns to consequences—who remains, what they will do, and how responsibility and grief converge after mass destruction.
After hearing of the near-total annihilation of forces in the Kurukṣetra war, Dhṛtarāṣṭra asks Sañjaya to report what the remaining Kaurava-side warriors did once the Pāṇḍavas had destroyed the armies on the battlefield.
