Renewed Summons to the Dice-Game and Exile Wager
etaj jñātvā samāgaccha tato māṃ naya sūtaja | jñātvā cikīrṣitam ahaṃ rājño yāsyāmi duḥkhitā ||
The verse highlights prudent ethical action: one should not step into a perilous or morally charged situation blindly. First ascertain the ruler’s intention and the likely course of events; only then act, even when compelled by circumstance.
A distressed woman instructs a messenger addressed as “son of the sūta” to first find out what the king plans to do in the assembly and then return to escort her. She will go to the court only after learning the king’s intention.
