Nāradasya Rājadharma-praśnāḥ
Nārada’s Examination of Royal Ethics
kaccit striyaḥ sāntvayasi kaccit tāś ca surakṣitāḥ | kaccin na śraddadhāsyāsāṃ kaccid guhyaṃ na bhāṣase ||
A ruler must ensure the welfare and protection of women through considerate conduct, while also maintaining prudent boundaries regarding state or household secrets—balancing compassion with discretion as part of rajadharma.
Nārada conducts a systematic examination of the king’s governance by asking a chain of “kaccit” questions; here he probes how the king treats and safeguards women and whether he avoids imprudent disclosure of confidential matters.
