Rājasūyābhiṣeka-darśana: Duryodhana’s Observation of the Consecration
तां दृष्टवा पाण्डुपुत्रस्य श्रियं परमिकामहम् । शान्तिं न परिगच्छामि दहा[मानेन चेतसा,पाण्डुपुत्र युधिष्ठिरकी उस उत्कृष्ट लक्ष्मीको देखकर मेरे हृदयमें जलन पैदा हो गयी है; अतः मुझे क्षणभर भी शान्ति नहीं मिलती
tāṃ dṛṣṭvā pāṇḍuputrasya śriyaṃ paramikām aham | śāntiṃ na parigacchāmi dahyamānena cetasā ||
パーンドゥの子の至上の繁栄と王者の輝きを見て、私は少しの安らぎも得られぬ。心は嫉妬と内なる苦悶に焼かれている。
दुर्योधन उवाच
Envy (īrṣyā) at another’s legitimate prosperity destroys inner peace; a mind that ‘burns’ with resentment becomes prone to adharma and harmful action.
In the royal assembly context, Duryodhana observes the exceptional prosperity and honor surrounding the Pāṇḍavas (especially Yudhiṣṭhira) and confesses that the sight makes him restless and inwardly scorched—foreshadowing his hostile plans.
