Duryodhana’s Humiliation in the Hall of Māyā
tvaṁ hy ārtānāṁ samāś cāsi bhītānām abhayapradaḥ | evam uktaḥ tataḥ kṛṣṇaḥ so ’bravīd yadunandanaḥ ||
The verse highlights an ethical ideal of leadership and divinity: the truly great become a refuge for the distressed and actively remove fear from the vulnerable. It presents protection and reassurance as central duties toward those in crisis.
Bhīṣma (as framed in the provided context) praises Kṛṣṇa as the foremost support of the afflicted and the giver of fearlessness. After this address, Kṛṣṇa—called Yadunandana—begins his reply, marking a transition to Kṛṣṇa’s response in the dialogue.
