अयं च सर्वराज्ञां वै बलश्लाघी महाबल: । जामदग्न्यस्य दयित: शिष्यो विप्रस्थ भारत,भारत! ये जो अपने बलके द्वारा सब राजाओंसे होड़ लेते हैं, विप्रवर परशुरामजीके प्रिय शिष्य हैं तथा जिन्होंने अपने बलका भरोसा करके युद्धमें अनेक राजाओंको परास्त किया है, उन महाबली कर्णको छोड़कर तुमने कृष्णकी आराधना कैसे की?

ayaṁ ca sarvarājñāṁ vai balaślāghī mahābalaḥ | jāmadagnyasya dayitaḥ śiṣyo viprastha bhārata ||

「そしてここにカルナがいる——大いなる力を誇り、諸王に競い挑む大勇士。彼はジャマダグニの子(パラシュラーマ)の愛弟子でもある。おおバーラタよ、己が力を頼みとして戦場で多くの王を打ち破ってきたこの強者を差し置き、どうしてクリシュナを礼拝し栄誉を捧げたのか。」
