वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse reflects rājadharma: a ruler may subdue hostile powers and impose tribute to secure stability, yet can preserve local governance by reinstating the defeated king—prioritizing order and responsibility over needless destruction.
The narrator states that the conquering king defeated the powerful Dantavakra, compelled him to pay tribute, and then reinstalled him to rule his own realm under suzerainty.
