Educational Q&A

Affectionate loyalty (praṇaya) and rightful patronage (anugraha) can harmonize ascetic residence with worldly service: a sage may remain settled in an āśrama and still serve a dynasty when the relationship is sustained by goodwill and accepted duty.

Vāyudeva explains that Gautama stays at that place/āśrama due to affectionate attachment and, supported by the favor of kings, renders service to the Magadhan royal lineage.
