Jarāsandha as Obstacle to the Rājasūya — Kṛṣṇa’s Strategic Genealogical Brief
Sabhā Parva, Adhyāya 13
te rājasūyaṁ suhṛdaḥ kāryam āhuḥ sametya me | tatra me niścitātamaṁ tava kṛṣṇa girā bhavet ||
Even when supported by allies, a ruler should seek wise counsel and make a settled decision grounded in dharma; Yudhiṣṭhira shows restraint and ethical humility by placing the final determination in Kṛṣṇa’s guidance rather than in ambition or peer pressure.
In the Sabha Parva context, Yudhiṣṭhira is being encouraged by his well-wishers to perform the Rājasūya sacrifice, a major royal rite implying paramount sovereignty. He turns to Kṛṣṇa and states that the decisive conclusion about undertaking it will depend on Kṛṣṇa’s counsel.
