Even extraordinary power is not permanent; when the sustaining conditions—especially divine favor and the moral order of the age—withdraw, what once seemed inexhaustible becomes finite. The verse underscores impermanence and the dependence of human prowess on dharma and cosmic timing.
The narrator reports to the king that Arjuna’s arrows, once famed as unfailing and even ‘inexhaustible,’ suddenly lose their efficacy and are spent in a moment. This marks a turning point where the old heroic era ends and the world moves into a diminished phase.
