The verse highlights the moral and practical power of right counsel: when a pivotal champion falls through guided strategy, an entire war-effort collapses. It frames Kṛṣṇa’s बुद्धि (intelligence/counsel) as decisive agency shaping outcomes, raising reflection on responsibility, dharma in warfare, and the ethical weight of strategic guidance.
After Karṇa’s death, Sañjaya addresses Kṛṣṇa as Govinda and interprets the event as a total defeat of the Kaurava martial leadership. He lists earlier fallen stalwarts (Bhīṣma, Droṇa) and includes Kṛpa and other followers, asserting that Karṇa’s fall—enabled by Kṛṣṇa’s guidance—signals the effective end of their fighting strength.
