कर्णपुत्रवधः (The Fall of Vṛṣasena) — Karṇa Parva, Adhyāya 62
तेषां प्रयतमानानां राधेयस्य निवारणे । रथान् पञ्चशतान् कर्ण: प्राहिणोद् यमसादनम्,राधापुत्र कर्णको रोकनेके लिये प्रयत्न करनेवाले पाँच सौ रथियोंको उसने यमलोक पहुँचा दिया
teṣāṁ prayatamānānāṁ rādheyasya nivāraṇe | rathān pañcaśatān karṇaḥ prāhiṇod yamasādanam ||
サンジャヤは言った。「ラーデーヤ(カルナ)を食い止めようと彼らが努めたとき、カルナは五百の車戦士をヤマの住処へ—死の国へ—送り込んだ。これは戦場の容赦ない終局を示す。勇気も努力も、戦における避けがたい死の法則に呑み込まれてゆくのだ。」
संजय उवाच
The verse underscores the grim ethical horizon of war: even determined resistance can be annihilated by superior force, and the battlefield reduces human striving to mortality—invoking Yama to remind that death is the inescapable outcome of violent conflict.
Sañjaya reports that when many chariot-warriors attempted to restrain Karna (Rādheya), Karna overcame them and killed five hundred of them—described poetically as sending them to Yama’s abode.
