Krishna’s Counsel, Arjuna’s Apology, and Authorization for Karṇa’s Slaying

abhavan me bhayaṃ tīvraṃ katham etad bhaviṣyati |

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the moral and psychological cost of wrath-driven conflict: when great warriors are consumed by anger, even a seasoned witness like Sañjaya anticipates catastrophic outcomes. It implicitly warns that krodha (anger) clouds judgment and magnifies destruction, challenging dharma in wartime.

Sañjaya, narrating events to Dhṛtarāṣṭra, describes his own intense fear upon seeing the furious, radiant heroes prepared for combat. His reaction frames the coming engagement as unusually perilous and unpredictable.
