Karṇa-vadha-pratyaya: Yudhiṣṭhira’s Verification of Karṇa’s Fall (कर्णवध-प्रत्ययः)
etad ū vistaraso yuddhaṁ prabrūhi kuśalo hāsi | na hi tṛpyāmi vīrāṇāṁ śṛṇvāno vikramān raṇe, sūta |
The verse highlights the epic value placed on śaurya (heroic valor) and the tradition of detailed battlefield narration: hearing of warriors’ deeds is treated as a compelling, almost inexhaustible source of inspiration and reflection on martial duty.
Śalya addresses the sūta (charioteer/narrator) and asks him to recount the war news at length, saying he cannot get enough of hearing about the warriors’ exploits in the battle.
