Chapter 45
अथवा परितोषस्ते वाचोक््त्वा सुमना भव | न स शक्यो युधा जेतुमन्यं कुरु मनोरथम्
athavā paritoṣas te vācoktvā sumanā bhava | na sa śakyo yudhā jetum anyaṃ kuru manoratham ||
シャリヤは言った。「それで満足するのなら、言葉の上でアルジュナ討伐を語り、心を慰めるがよい。だが真実として、戦でアルジュナを打ち負かせる者はいない。ゆえに別の決意を立てよ。」
शल्य उवाच
Śalya urges sober realism over self-deception: empty talk may soothe pride, but wise action requires accepting battlefield truth and choosing a feasible strategy rather than clinging to an impossible aim.
In the Karṇa Parva war setting, Śalya addresses Karṇa with sharp counsel, dismissing boastful plans about killing Arjuna and warning that Arjuna cannot be overcome in direct combat, advising Karṇa to adopt another plan.
