Karṇa’s Bhārgavāstra and the Search for Yudhiṣṭhira
Chapter 45
eṣa sūrya ivāmbhodaiś channaḥ pārtho na dṛśyate | etad-anto 'rjunaḥ śalya nimagno yodhasāgare ||

The verse highlights how anger and triumphal certainty can distort judgment in war: Karṇa interprets Arjuna’s temporary concealment amid a massed assault as his “end,” illustrating the ethical danger of prideful speech and rash conclusions under the pressure of battle.
Karṇa, speaking heatedly to his charioteer Śalya, points out that the Saṁsaptakas have surrounded and attacked Arjuna from all sides. Because Arjuna is no longer visible—compared to the sun hidden by clouds—Karṇa claims that Arjuna has been overwhelmed and has met his end in the ‘ocean’ of warriors.
