sañjaya uvāca tataḥ śalyaḥ pariṣvajya sutaṃ te vākyam abravīt | duryodhanam amitraghnaṃ prīto madrādhipas tadā ||
サンジャヤは言った。するとマドラの王シャリヤは心から喜び、汝の子にして敵を討つドゥルヨーダナを抱きしめ、次の言葉を告げた。
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights how emotional affirmation and public support among leaders can intensify commitment in war. Ethically, it hints that encouragement is not neutral: it can reinforce a chosen path and thereby share in its consequences, especially when the larger conflict involves contested dharma.
Sanjaya reports to Dhritarashtra that Shalya, king of Madra, warmly embraces Duryodhana and then begins to speak to him. It sets up Shalya’s forthcoming words as counsel or encouragement within the Kaurava camp during the Karna Parva.
