duryodhana uvāca tataḥ sa tapasā caiva damena niyamena ca | pūjopahārabalibhir homamantrapuraskṛtaiḥ ||
The verse highlights a classical dharmic ideal: spiritual or worldly aims are pursued through tapas (austerity), dama (self-control), and niyama (disciplined observance), expressed outwardly through orderly ritual—worship, offerings, and homa accompanied by mantras—where inner restraint and outer practice reinforce each other.
Duryodhana continues his account by describing how the person under discussion undertook disciplined religious practice—performing worship with offerings and ritual acts, emphasizing homa and mantra-recitation as the leading elements of the rite.
