सहस्रमिव सूर्याणां दीप्यमानं स्वतेजसा । शूलिनं जटिलं गौरं वल्कलाजिनवाससम्,वे अपने तेजसे सहस्रों सूर्योके समान प्रकाशित हो रहे थे। उनके हाथमें त्रिशूल, मस्तकपर जटा और श्रीअंगोंपर वल्कल एवं मृगचर्मके वस्त्र शोभा पा रहे थे। उनकी कान्ति गौरवर्णकी थी
sahasram iva sūryāṇāṃ dīpyamānaṃ svatejasā | śūlinaṃ jaṭilaṃ gauraṃ valkalājinavāsasam |
サンジャヤは言った。――御身は自らの光により千の太陽のごとく輝いていた。三叉戟を携え、髪はジャターに結われ、色は白く、樹皮の衣と鹿皮をまとい、厳しい光栄のうちに現れた――苦行の力そのものとして。
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights tejas—inner spiritual power—expressed through ascetic marks (matted hair, bark and deerskin) and overwhelming radiance. In the Mahābhārata’s ethical world, such power is meant to inspire reverence and self-restraint, reminding warriors that force is not only physical but also moral and spiritual.
Sañjaya describes a formidable, ascetic-looking figure appearing on the battlefield context: radiant like a thousand suns, carrying a trident, with matted locks and austere clothing. The description signals an extraordinary presence whose very appearance affects the mood and conduct of those who witness him.
