मादनीयानि पापानि विदित्वा चात्मन: सुखम् । अपिबन्त यथाकामं पानपा गीतवादितै:,मादक वस्तुएँ पापजनक होती हैं, यह जानकर भी पीनेवाले लोग अपने सुखके लिये गीत और वाद्योंके साथ इच्छानुसार उनका पान करते थे
mādanīyāni pāpāni viditvā cātmanaḥ sukham | apibanta yathākāmaṃ pānapā gītavāditaiḥ ||
ナーラダは言った。「酩酊の酒が罪であると知りながらも、飲む者たちは己の快楽を求め、歌と楽器の響きに伴われて、望むままに飲み続けた。」
नारद उवाच
The verse teaches that mere knowledge of sin (pāpa) is insufficient to restrain behavior when personal pleasure (ātmanaḥ sukha) dominates; ethical living requires self-control beyond intellectual awareness.
Nārada describes people who, despite recognizing intoxicants as morally harmful, continue to drink freely, surrounded by entertainment (song and instruments), illustrating how social pleasure can normalize wrongdoing.
