Droṇa-parva Adhyāya 29 — Arjuna’s defeat of Vṛṣaka–Acalā and the neutralization of Śakuni’s māyā
बिभेद हृदयं राज्ञों भगदत्तस्य पाण्डव: | फिर तो प्रतापी भगदत्तको सारा जगत् अन्धकारमय प्रतीत होने लगा। उस समय झुकी हई गाँठवाले एक अर्धचन्द्राकार बाणके द्वारा पाण्डुनन्दन अर्जुनने राजा भगदत्तके वक्ष:स्थलको विदीर्ण कर दिया
bibhēda hṛdayaṁ rājño bhagadattasya pāṇḍavaḥ |
サンジャヤは言った。「パーンダヴァ(アルジュナ)はバガダッタ王の心臓を射抜いた。討たれたバガダッタには、全世界が闇に沈むかのように見えた。さらにアルジュナは、曲がった結び目を備えた半月形の矢をもって、王の胸を裂き開いた。」
संजय उवाच
The passage underscores kṣatriya-dharma in its starkest form: in a righteous war, a warrior must act decisively and skillfully, even when the act is fatal, without personal malice—duty executed amid the moral gravity of violence.
Sañjaya reports that Arjuna strikes King Bhagadatta with a powerful arrow, piercing his heart and tearing his chest, after which Bhagadatta experiences darkness—signaling his collapse and death on the battlefield.
