sa cāpi sṛṣṭaḥ pitrā te bhīṣmasyāntakaraḥ kila
The verse underscores the Mahābhārata’s recurring tension between human agency and destiny: a warrior’s role in the war is framed as already shaped by lineage and prior intention, suggesting that ethical struggle unfolds within larger currents of fate and karma.
Sañjaya informs the listener that a particular person (implied from context) was produced by the listener’s father and is reputedly the one who will bring about Bhīṣma’s end, foreshadowing Bhīṣma’s fall in the Kurukṣetra war.
