Educational Q&A

The verse highlights how disciplined protection and the presence of elite warriors can break an opponent’s morale: even determined effort may fail when confronted by overwhelming strategic defense. Ethically, it reflects the harsh reality of kṣatriya warfare, where courage is tested not only by intent but by conditions on the field.

Sañjaya reports that the Pañcāla troops, despite trying hard, could not even face or look toward Droṇācārya, because he was effectively shielded by a complete guard of great chariot-warriors (mahārathas), making any approach or challenge psychologically and tactically difficult.
