Chapter 161
tvam utpanno mahābāho pañcālānāṁ vadha prati | kariṣyasi jagat sarvam apāñcālaṁ kilodyataḥ ||
The verse illustrates how hatred and triumphalist rhetoric can frame violence as destiny (“born to slay”), revealing an adharma-driven mindset that treats entire peoples as expendable. It serves as a cautionary example of ethical collapse in war: dehumanization and the glorification of annihilation.
In the Drona Parva’s battle context, Duryodhana addresses a powerful fighter, praising him as destined to kill the Pañcālas and urging him to act. The statement is meant to inflame resolve and promise total victory by imagining a world emptied of the Pañcālas.
