Arjuna-vīrya-prasaṃśā and renewed battle formation
sañjaya uvāca | duḥśāsano vṛṣaseno madrarājas tvam eva ca | somadattaś ca bhūriśravāḥ tathā drauṇir viviṁśatiḥ ||
The verse functions as a moral reminder through enumeration: many renowned warriors—bound by loyalty, ambition, or kinship—become participants in a destructive conflict, illustrating how collective alignment with questionable aims can magnify harm and karmic consequence.
Sañjaya is listing key Kaurava-side fighters (including Śalya, Aśvatthāman, and others), situating the scale and seriousness of the forces involved in the Drona Parva’s battle narrative.
