Chapter 146 — Night Battle: Sātyaki and Duryodhana; Śakuni’s Encirclement of Arjuna
na tulyaṃ vṛṣṇibhir iha dṛśyate kiṃcana prabho | bhūtaṃ bhavyaṃ bhaviṣyac ca balena bharatarṣabha ||
The verse underscores the Mahābhārata’s recurring theme that true power in war is not merely individual prowess but also the collective might and reputation of a righteous and capable lineage; it frames the Vṛṣṇis as an unsurpassed standard of strength across time.
Sañjaya, narrating events to the king, offers an emphatic appraisal: he declares that no one—past, present, or future—matches the Vṛṣṇis in strength, heightening the sense of awe around their role and influence in the unfolding battle narrative.
