The verse highlights the limits of human judgment in the fog of war: even expert warriors cannot always see a clear, rightful outcome. It suggests humility before the complexity of karma, strategy, and dharma when violence escalates beyond easy moral or tactical certainty.
Sañjaya describes a remarkable and confusing combat spectacle. The assembled elite warriors watch closely, yet they cannot determine that victory is clearly going to either one of the two principal combatants in that great encounter.
