महारथो महाबाहुर्महाबाणैर्महाबल: । विव्याधाधिरथिभ्भीमं नवभिर्निशितैस्तदा,महारथी महाबाहु महाबली अधिरथपुत्र कर्णने उस समय नौ तीखे महाबाणोंसे भीमसेनको घायल कर दिया

vivyādhādhirathir bhīmaṁ navabhir niśitais tadā ||
サンジャヤは言った。そのとき、長き腕と大いなる力を備えた大車戦士アディラティ(カルナ)は、鋭利で強力な矢九本をもってビーマを射貫いた。ここには戦場における技と力の容赦ない高まりが示される。武の優越は、無差別な暴威ではなく、測り定められた狙い澄ました一撃によって現れるのである。
संजय उवाच

Sañjaya reports that Karna (called Adhirathi), a foremost warrior, strikes Bhīma with nine sharp arrows, wounding him during the intense fighting of the Droṇa Parva.
