Droṇa Encircled at Night: Coalition Advance and Battlefield Omens (द्रोणपर्यावरणं रात्रियुद्धवर्णनम्)
महाराज! तब क्रोधमें भरे हुए पराक्रमी भीमसेनने सामने खड़ी हुई रथसेनापर बाणोंकी वर्षा आरम्भ कर दी ।। ते वध्यमाना: समरे तव पुत्रा महारथा: । भीम॑ भीमबला युद्धे योधयन्ति जयैषिण:,युद्धस्थलमें भयंकर बलशाली विजयाभिलाषी आपके महारथी पुत्र बाणोंकी मार खाकर भी समरांगणमें भीमसेनके साथ युद्ध करते रहे
sañjaya uvāca | mahārāja! tadā krodhabhareṇa parākramī bhīmaseno 'bhimukhīṃ sthitāṃ rathasenāṃ prati śaravarṣam ārabdhavān || te vadhyamānāḥ samare tava putrā mahārathāḥ | bhīmaṃ bhīmabalā yuddhe yodhayanti jayaiṣiṇaḥ ||
サンジャヤは言った。「大王よ、そのとき憤怒に満ちた剛勇のビーマセーナは、眼前に並ぶ戦車隊へ矢の雨を降らせ始めた。戦場で矢に打たれ倒れながらも、王の御子ら—大車戦士にして、力は凄まじく勝利を希う者たち—は、なおビーマと戦い続けた。」
संजय उवाच
The verse underscores how anger (krodha) can intensify violence, while the craving for victory (jaya-eṣiṇā) can keep warriors fighting even when grievously wounded. It implicitly contrasts raw impulse and ambition with the need for discernment and restraint within kṣatriya-dharma.
Bhima, enraged, unleashes a heavy volley of arrows against the chariot troops before him. Despite being struck, Dhritarashtra’s sons—described as great chariot-warriors—continue to confront and fight Bhima, determined to win.
