The verse highlights the grim ethical tension of war: even a revered, radiant teacher like Droṇa becomes a target when duty and survival dominate the battlefield. It underscores how martial resolve can override personal reverence, raising questions about dharma under extreme conflict.
Sañjaya reports that the warriors on the opposing side are making a concentrated, full-strength effort in the fight with the aim of killing Droṇa—figuratively ‘sending him to Yama’s house,’ i.e., to death.
