Bhūriśravas’s Censure, Prāyopaveśa, and Sātyaki’s Beheading
taṁ tu śabdam atha śrutvā kṛtavarmā mahārathaḥ
The verse highlights battlefield vigilance: a responsible warrior must discern and respond to significant sounds—signals, cries, or reports—without confusion, showing presence of mind amid chaos.
Sañjaya narrates that Kṛtavarmā hears a particular sound (from the preceding context) and reacts—an indicator that an important turn in the battle has occurred and that Kṛtavarmā is preparing to act.
