Varṣa-Parvata-Nivāsinām Varnanam
Description of Regions, Mountains, and Their Inhabitants
śuktimatīm anadrāṃ ca tathaiva vṛṣasāhdayām | lohityāṃ karatoyāṃ ca tathaiva vṛṣakāhnayām ||

The verse functions as part of an epic catalogue of regions brought under control, highlighting the scale of political power and the far-reaching consequences of warfare and ambition; ethically, it invites reflection on how conquest expands dominion but also multiplies responsibility and suffering.
Sañjaya continues listing territories—largely identified by place- or river-names—that were subdued/overrun in the course of campaigns being recounted in Bhīṣma Parva, emphasizing the breadth of the forces and lands involved.
