Educational Q&A

The verse underscores how unchecked anger and vengeance can dominate even a king’s judgment. In the ethical frame of the Mahābhārata, the battlefield tests dharma not only through duty but through self-control; Duryodhana’s kill-intent signals a slide from righteous combat into personal hatred.

As evening approaches and the Sun reddens, Duryodhana, energized by battle, charges directly at Bhima with the intention of killing him. It sets up an intense confrontation late in the day’s fighting.
