Adhyāya 70: Sātyaki’s Arrow-Display and the Bhūriśravas Engagement; Twilight Withdrawal
evam enaṃ vijānīhi ācārya pitaraṃ gurum | kṛṣṇo yasya prasīdet lokās tenākṣayā jitāḥ ||
Bhīṣma teaches that rightful recognition and reverence toward one’s ācārya/guru (as teacher and father) is integral to dharma, and that true, lasting victory is grounded not merely in force but in the favor (prasāda) of Kṛṣṇa—symbolizing divine sanction and moral alignment.
Bhīṣma, speaking within the Bhīṣma Parva’s war-context, urges the listener to understand a particular revered figure as an ācārya, father, and guru, and then asserts a broader principle: whoever gains Kṛṣṇa’s pleasure attains an inexhaustible conquest of the worlds—i.e., enduring success and legitimacy.
