Chapter 7: Dvīpa–Varṣa–Meru-varṇana
Description of the Dvīpa, Varṣas, and Mount Meru
ṣaṣṭiṁ varṣa-sahasrāṇi ṣaṣṭim eva śatāni ca | āditya-tāpa-taptās te viśanti śaśi-maṇḍalam ||
The verse conveys that higher states are reached through prolonged, law-governed endurance—an image of karmic maturation and purification (tāpa) before attaining a calmer realm (the Moon).
Sañjaya describes a cosmic process: certain beings, after immense periods exposed to the Sun’s scorching heat, are said to enter the lunar sphere, illustrating the ordered movement of beings through celestial stations.
