sañjaya uvāca | pitāmaha nibodhedaṃ yat tvāṃ vakṣyāmi bhārata | nānurūpam ahaṃ manye tvayi jīvati kaurava ||
The verse stresses the ethic of appropriateness (anurūpatā) in kṣatriya conduct: when a revered commander like Bhīṣma is present, panic and retreat are seen as dishonorable and contrary to duty, calling for steadiness and leadership.
Sanjaya reports to the Kuru elder Bhīṣma that the Kaurava forces are fleeing. He urges Bhīṣma to take note, implying that such disorder is unworthy while Bhīṣma still leads and lives.
