etasminn antare bhīṣmaḥ śuśrāva vipulāṃ giram

The verse highlights how, amid human conflict, larger forces—often expressed as signs, voices, or omens—can intrude upon the battlefield, reminding listeners that the war’s outcomes are not merely tactical but tied to dharma and cosmic order.
Sañjaya reports that during the ongoing events, Bhīṣma suddenly hears a powerful voice. The line functions as a narrative pivot, preparing the audience for an announcement, omen, or intervention that will influence the battle’s mood and meaning.
