कालदण्डोपमां घोरां मृत्योर्जिद्वामिव श्वसन् । अब्रवीच्च तदा श्वेतो भीष्मं शान्तनवं रणे,अत्यन्त उग्र, महाभयंकर, कालदण्डके समान घोर और मृत्युकी जिह्वा-सी प्रतीत होनेवाली उस शक्तिको श्वेतने हाथमें उठाया और लंबी साँस लेते हुए रणक्षेत्रमें शान्तनुपुत्र भीष्मसे इस प्रकार कहा--
kāladaṇḍopamāṃ ghorāṃ mṛtyor jidvām iva śvasan | abravīc ca tadā śveto bhīṣmaṃ śāntanavaṃ raṇe ||
サンジャヤは言った。するとシュヴェータは荒く息をつきながら、閻魔の刑杖にも比すべき恐るべき武器――まるで死そのものの舌のように見える凄絶なそれ――を掲げ、戦場にてシャーンタヌの子ビーシュマにこう呼びかけた。
