सम्यक् प्रणीता नागाश्च प्रभिन्नकरटामुखा: । ऋष्टितोमरनाराचैर्निविंद्धा वरवारणा:,गजानां पादरक्षास्तु व्यूढोरस्का: प्रहारिण: । ऋष्टिभि श्र थनुर्भिश्च विमलैश्नव परश्वधै:
saṃyak praṇītā nāgāś ca prabhinnakaraṭāmukhāḥ | ṛṣṭitomaranārācair niviṃddhā varavāraṇāḥ, gajānāṃ pādarakṣās tu vyūḍhoraskāḥ prahāriṇaḥ | ṛṣṭibhiḥ śaradhanurbhiś ca vimalaiś nava-paraśvadhaiḥ |
サンジャヤは言った。「象たちは巧みに駆り立てられて前進し、突撃の折にはこめかみから液がほとばしっていた。あの見事な牙ある巨象は、槍や投げ槍、鉄鏃の矢に貫かれた。さらに象の足もとを守るために配された歩兵たち—胸広く、打撃に鍛えられた者ども—は、槍と弓矢、そして磨き立ての光る戦斧をもって戦い続けた。」
