Educational Q&A

Even affectionate closeness can lead to moral negligence. When one realizes they have diminished another—especially the divine—one should respond with humility, acknowledge the fault, and seek forgiveness, restoring right relationship (dharma) through repentance and reverence.

After witnessing Kṛṣṇa’s overwhelming divine majesty (viśvarūpa context), Arjuna looks back on their earlier companionship and remembers moments where he spoke casually or acted familiarly. He fears that such joking familiarity amounted to disrespect, whether in private or before others, and he formally asks Kṛṣṇa to pardon those offenses.
